Save Our Health Supplements – Block This Bill!
As someone who believes in dietary supplements, you may
have heard of some of the ongoing attempts by the drug
companies and the FDA to oppress and restrict our access
to the supplements we wish to consume.
Ever since the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health Education Act
(DSHEA) – a huge victory for folks like us – the powers that
be have tried to overturn or otherwise weaken that law.
The latest attempt is in the Senate right now. It’s called
Sen. McCain’s “Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010″ (S. 3002).
Masquerading as a “safety” measure, it is essentially an
assault on the supplement industry. Below, you’ll find the
truly ugly details.
To voice your opinion about this issue, there is a link below that
takes you right to a site where you can find your two US Senators.
I have enclosed a suggested letter that you are welcome to cut and
paste in the “comments” box of your Senator.
PLEASE TAKE 3 MINUTES RIGHT NOW TO PRESERVE
YOUR RIGHT TO TAKE THE SUPPLEMENTS YOU WISH!
By the way, this is not a Republican versus Democrat issue…
Senator Orin Hatch, R- Utah has been a strong advocate FOR
supplements and co-sponsored DSHEA in 1994.
SAMPLE/SUGGESTED LETTER — FEEL FREE TO CUT AND PASTE:
Dear Senator,
I am writing to express my STRONG OPPOSITION to Sen. McCain’s “Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010″ (S. 3002).
As I understand, this bill would require every person involved with supplements – all the way down to mom-and-pop health food stores – to register with the FDA. Next, every “dietary supplement facility” must turn over a complete list of the products and ingredients they sell or handle.
Should this bill become law, every dietary supplement sold today would essentially be up for review, superseding the DSHEA act passed in 1994. Supplements will be assumed unsafe, unless proven otherwise!
This is an outrageous assault on the American public’s right to access dietary supplements. In my opinion, it has little to do with safety and is a covert move to suppress and restrict access to supplements and tip more power to the drug companies. Moreover, it expands the FDA’s power to unacceptable levels.
If Senator McCain and the FDA truly want to initiate a new safety campaign, let’s turn our attention to the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry which kills over 100,000 Americans each year!
Sincerely,

Health Freedom Alliance has been working for years to educate our readers about the benefits of vitamins and natural supplements and just when traditional medicine is starting to recognize the positive healthy effects the government just might take them away. If Arizona Senator John McCain has his way, many of the supplements you rely on for good health will disappear. And the cost of the few you can still get will explode in price.
Earlier this month, Sen. McCain introduced a bill falsely labeled the “Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010″ (S. 3002). This bill would require every person involved with supplements – all the way down to mom-and-pop health food stores – to register with the FDA. Next, every “dietary supplement facility” must turn over a complete list of the products and ingredients they sell or handle.
It gets worse. Should this bill become law, the state will determine if an ingredient can be sold. You see, under DSHEA passed in 1994, any ingredient sold before the bill passed could be sold legally forever. Well, no more. Under this bill, the FDA will assume any ingredient “adulterated” unless “there is a history of use or other evidence of safety.” Manufacturers and distributors must provide the FDA “with information, including any citation to published articles, which is the basis on which the manufacturer or distributor has concluded that a dietary supplement containing such dietary ingredient will reasonably be expected to be safe.” And guess who is the ultimate judge and jury? The FDA!

I personally sent this to the 2 Senators from Illinois, and only Roland Burris responded. It was a what looked like a standard form letter from a staff member, but as least it was a response. If this law passes, apparently per Burris it is under review in the Senate currently, and you don’t do something to stop it, them you have no reason to complain, in my opinion.
Well, they’re at it gain. Please see below from MLM WatchDog. com
