Bone Health Supplements – Crucial As We Age
Calcium is by far one of the most important bone health supplements, however, Vitamin D plays an important role in the body’s absorption of calcium. Our bones consist of approximately 35 to 40 per cent calcium. Phosphorus especially, Boron, Magnesium, Vitamin C, and Vitamin K and Zinc are also believed to be effective to help our bones as well. All of the aforementioned work together and support each other. Sunshine is a good natural source of Vitamin D, even if you can get 10-15 minutes per day.
Good natural sources for the above mentioned mineral and vitamins are garlic and onions, parsley, black pepper, cabbage dandelion, and cod liver oil. Good health sure seems complicated these days, doesn’t it? With good information and some “diet diligence”, it doesn’t have to be.
When we are growing up from infancy through early childhood, these nutrients are obviously very important for bone development, until we get to our teenage years, bone is being made and developed until at that point we reach what is known as peak bone mass. Then as we age, bone mass begins a steady decrease.
In recent years, the FDA was promoting food over supplements, now they are saying the opposite, very strange in a couple of ways, certainly they know most people don’t eat a proper diet and that food quality continues to decline in quality due to pollution, dangerous herbicides and pesticides, soil depletion and so forth. On the other hand, certain politicians are now trying to “regulate” the supplement industry along with pharmaceutical companies and trying to basically take away the supplement market or regulate it to the point of ridiculousness. This is all because the two want their “piece of the pie, and will do anything they can to get it.
As we mature, our bodies manufacture less and less of the nutrients and absorb less of them also. We see bone deterioration and breakage and so forth at a much higher rate. This is an especially important time to be sure to be getting enough of these nutrients daily and n becomes very important. Choose your supplements wisely from reputable companies.
Mangosteen, believe it or not has been shown to effectively help increase bone density, I remember a lecture several years ago from a doctor stating he had actually been able to increase his own bone density through regular us of Mangosteen supplementation. Acai may help as well as it contains some of the important nutrients need and mentioned above. Your physician can provide a simple test to tell you what your bone density is, and I would advise it for older folks. Please follow their advice to avoid or correct avoidable problems. My personal opinion is that bone health supplements are a must, especially as we age.
