What Are Xanthones and How Do They Work?

Xanthones are plant phenols found in a small variety of tropical plants, of the known roughly 200 known xanthones that exist in nature, 40 or more are found in the mangosteen fruit, the highest concentration found in any one place. The highest concentration of the xanthones are found in the pericarp or rind, not in the fruit itself. Xanthones are classified as phytonutrients and are biologically active compounds. Mangosteen and Your Health and Wellness

Mangosteen and wellness seem to make more sense the more research I do. It is becoming an accepted fact that free radical damage and chronic low grade inflammation are at the root of so many of our health challenges today. The 40 some different xanthones found in the mangosteen fruit, each xanthone with a different antioxidant property, and the other phytonutrients working together are showing to be powerful antioxidants. Xanthones have shown in tests to also be effective COX-2 inhibitors, the inflammation part of the equation.
