Stroke Antioxidant Treatment As a Sensible Preventative Measure

There is continuous mounting evidence that stroke antioxidant treatment makes a lot of sense. It certainly makes sense from a preventative standpoint, and also for anyone that has had a stroke as a measure to help insure against a future stroke.  Antioxidants also help rid the body of free radicals, shown to help reduce the bad cholesterol, LDL or low-density lipoprotein. It should be kept at levels below 100 mg/dL. HDL or high-density lipoprotein is important as it removes or cleanses cholesterol from your body. According to several doctors I have consulted, the best way to raise HDL is through exercise. Levels of HDL of less than than 40 mg/dL for men and less than 50 mg/dL for women could put you at risk for heart disease.

Different Views of Healthy Human Bones

Bone Health Supplements – Crucial As We Age

Calcium is by far one of the most important bone health supplements, however, Vitamin D plays an important role in the body’s absorption of calcium. Our bones consist of approximately 35 to 40 per cent calcium. Phosphorus especially, Boron, Magnesium, Vitamin C, and Vitamin K and Zinc are also believed to be effective to help our bones as well. All of the aforementioned work together and support each other. Sunshine is a good natural source of Vitamin D, even if you can get 10-15 minutes per day.

Healthy Kale Plant

Foods Highest in Vitamin K – Kale

Foods High in Vitamin K consist mostly of dark green leafy vegetables. Leading the list is Kale, followed by Collard Greens, (a personal favorite of mine), spinach and turnip greens (another favorite of mine). I live in Chicago, but lived many years down south. What can I say? They got Me!

Frozen and without salt added have the highest concentration. Other decent sources are Broccoli, Brussels  Sprouts,  Onions, Dandelion Greens, common in prepackaged fancy mixed salad greens these days. Vitamin K can also be found in mos Lettuces, Avocado, Parsley, Asparagus, Sauerkraut and Endive.  Some vegetable oils may also have high levels of the vitamin. Audiometer Hearing Test

Omega 3 Causes Tinnitus? – Not Normally

There seems to be a a fair amount of inquiries on the Internet regarding whether or not Omega 3 causes Tinnitus or “ringing in the ears”. I did a good bit of research on the subject and found no evidence to support that it does. Tinnitus is a symptom, not a disease and may be caused by many things. It can caused by an extreme physical change, an obvious one being subjected to  a loud noise, whether a one time incident or a prolonged situation from a job, loud equipment etc.

The Importance of  Aging Properties of Antioxidants

The aging or  more correctly termed anti-aging properties of antioxidants vary greatly and work in different ways within the body. Antioxidants can slow the progression of aging which shows up as “oxidative stress”, a number of neurodegenerative diseases, and so forth. Is Mangosteen Safe?

Physician's Advice on Safe Health Supplements

Is Mangosteen Safe? Find Out!

People who have never heard of mangosteen often ask me, is mangosteen safe? My answer is yes. There are just a few exceptions I’ve run across, and please note, this is regarding “pure mangosteen”. In rare instances, some people are allergic to it. The way you can tell is that you develop itchiness, sometimes severe. One option is to stop taking the supplement for 2 weeks, and then try again, cutting the dosage in half. The only other known health risk is if you are taking Coumadin, or Crystalline warfarin sodium, it is a blood thinner or anti- coagulant, often used in heart patients. Please consult your physician if you are taking Coumadin and are considering taking a mangosteen supplement.
